Japanese Encephalitis camp begins today

As a part of an awareness drive against Japanese Encephalitis, a vaccination camp will be organized by the NRHM from April 2 to April 22 targetting children between 1 to 15 years of age. A rally was taken out from Old Dak Bunglow here today. Tinsukia Deputy Commissioner KK Dwevedi flagged off the rally, which was attended by several schoolchildren, public and health workers. A press meet was organized by the district administration at the DC conference hall later today. Speaking on the occasion, Dwevedi apprised that Tinsukia district, situated in the extreme east bordering Arunachal pradesh, is vulnerable to Japanese enchapalities.To make Tinsukia district free from Japanese Encephalitis an integerated approach has been taken. Meetings, trainings, vaccine distribution in tea garden areas and educational institutions have been planned. WHO and UNICEF are also supporting the programme. Altogether 4,19,964 children have been targetted for the vaccination programme. The DC sought the support of the media to make the programme a success. Dr Tulika Goswami Mahanta, assistant professor, Assam Medical College gave a presentation on Japanese Encephalitis, and said that the disease can be prevented only through vaccination. Dr Narayan Upadhaya, Head of the Department of Neurology, AMC, Dr Ajay Takraw from UNICEF, and ADC Dr Jayant Narlikar were also present on the occasion.
