Jaya allocates Rs 920 crores to improve roads

Chief minister Jayalalithaa on Sunday allocated Rs 920 crore towards improving the state highways, major district roads, panchayat and panchayat union roads as part of the Comprehensive Road Infrastructure Development Programme (CRIDP). This is towards the second phase of the CRIDP, according to a government. The chief minister had earlier sanctioned Rs 1,050 crore towards the Comprehensive Road Infrastructure Development Programme for strengthening and renovating the various highways and roads in Tamil Nadu. This phase was meant for improving and strengthening 5,63.86 km of highway, 63.56 km major district roads and for reconstructing 52 bridges, the release said.With the allocation of Rs 920 crore on Sunday, improvement works of more than 1420 km of highways, 1676 km of major district roads and 3597 km of other district roads would be taken up. The panchayat and panchayat union roads will be strengthened and renovated at a cost of Rs 100 crore. The chief minister has instructed the authorities to expedite the work, the release said.
