Jamshedpur, July 24: Jindal Steel and Power Limited has opened its local office in the city to expedite the process of land acquisition for its greenfield project.
The office that came up in New Baradwari would deal with the process of land acquisition for its proposed 5-million-tonne steel plant project.
The plant will be set up at Asanboni, about 25km from Jamshedpur.
The office premises would remain busy with the visitors, especially rayiats possessing landed properties at Asanboni and also the middlemen.
Senior executives of the company said that it was busy acquiring land for industrial purposes.
"Primarily, we are busy with land acquisition. Although the act of land acquisition is very difficult, we are making steady progress in our attempt. We have already acquired more than 200 acres of land in Asanboni and its periphery,' said Avijit Ghosh, the senior general manager of Jindal Steel, adding that they would require about 3000 acres for the mega project.
The officials holding meetings of the rayiats at the site of the proposed steel plant are trying to motivate them to sell the land. But these activities are being carried out clandestinely, as the members of Vishtapit Virodhi Ekta Manch are active in the villages.
The association is opposing Jindal Steel's attempt of land acquisition process, sources said.
The sources said that rayiats were not only being coaxed to part with their ancestral land but are also being asked how exactly would they benefit if the plant is set up at a place which has neither electricity nor any clean drinking water.
