J&K greenery falls prey to militancy

About three lakh trees were felled down during the past eight years of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir rendering 5 lakh hectares of forest land barren. Stating this in Jammu at a rally organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature India, the Forest Minister, Choudhary Mohammad Rahman, said even the state was not contributing much to the enviornmental pollution, still there were many enviornmental problems confronting the state.
