The land-losers who had sacrificed their cultivation quarters to help installation of DVC's Mejia Thermal Power Station in Bankura blocked the coal consignments and entrance of the power utility causing severe inconvenience to its expansion work for 12 hours today. They demanded absorption against land acquisition. The stir was withdrawn only after the Bankura district administration assured one to one conciliation meeting on 27 May. Hundreds of land-looser from 12 villages like Lotiaboni, Radhamadhabpur, Hanspahari assembled along the connecting link roads and entrances of the power utility early this morning. The blockade continued till 2 pm today. Mr Sadananda Maji, leader of the land-looser committee alleged: "In 1980s we had sacrificed 1200 acres of land to help installation of the power plant. The DVC had assured absorption of 540 persons. But they stopped the process only after employing 300 persons. They are paying no heed to our cry since years.' The villagers stir braved a giant police contingent assembled from 13 PS areas. The district administration engaged one executive magistrate to have a dialogue with the agitators. The chief engineer, MTPS, Mr Sukhendu Ghosh told reporters: "We have brought the matter to the notice of the senior DVC officials at Kolkata. I have learnt that the district administration will hold a meeting with the villagers on 27 May after the panchayat polls will be over.'
