New Delhi: Even after the coal ministry’s assurance of supplying more coal to power plants, as many as 33 electricity generating stations are running at less than four days of stock due to less receipt from Coal India. As per the data (as on October 23) released by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), 33 power plants with a total generation capacity of 39,054MW across the country are reeling under acute fuel shortage and have coal stocks for less than four days. All these plants are working at these lower levels due to less receipt of fuel from Coal India and its subsidiaries. Power plants usually maintain 10-15 days of coal stock. The situation is considered critical if the reserves fall below seven days of stock. Rajghat thermal power project (135 MW) and Badarpur plant (705), which supply electricity to the National Capital Region (NCR), have stocks of less than four days-.Similar is the plight of three power plants in the neighbouring state of Haryana, where 1,360 MW Panipat plant, 600 MW Yamunanagar plant, 1,200 MW Rajiv Gandhi plant and 500 MW Indira Gandhi power plant are having critical fuel stocks of less than four days. As many as seven power plants with a cumulative capacity of 10,512 MW in Uttar Pradesh received less coal. These projects include the country's largest power producer NTPC's Rihand and Singrauli projects of 2,000 MW capacity each. The 1,240 MW thermal power station in Kota (Rajasthan), 500 MW Bhilai plant in Chhattisgarh also witnessed less supply of coal. Power production in Andhra Pradesh, which have seven power stations, was also hit due to workers strike at Singareni Coalfields in support of Telangana agitation. PTI
