Kachho, Kohistan, parts of Thatta be declared drought-hit’

KARACHI: The Sindh Board of Revenue has been directed by Qaim Ali Shah to declare Kachho, Kohistan and parts of Thatta district calamity hit. He directed Sindh Food, Revenue, Relief and concerned Commissioner/Deputy Commissioners to distribute wheat among 34,000 identified drought affected families with 50 kilogrammes to each family for one month on the pattern/practice of Tharparkar district with immediate effect.
Qaim directed provincial livestock department to ensure the vaccination and supply of fodder to the animals and also assigned to Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to start the work for the installation of 1,067 hand pumps to ensure the potable drinking water to the drought effected people of these areas.

Qaim said we should have to find out the permanent socio-economic solution of the people residing in Arid Zone areas in Sindh. He said in this continuation, we have planned to establish Thar Development Authority and directed the officers concerned to speed up this task.
He proposed there could be one such organisation for all the areas of Arid Zones in Sindh but if there was any difficulty/bottleneck in implementation than we could establish separate organisation for each Arid Zone.
He expressed his apprehensions over the water shortage for the wild life in these areas specially at Kheerthar National Park and directed Sindh Minister for Wild Life to prepare a plan/strategy for the supply of water to the wild life and to ensure there should be no threat to the wild life in these areas. He directed him to come with specific plan in next meeting.
He directed PDMA to start the work for installation of 305 hand pump in Dadu district, 303 in Thatta and 459 hand pump in Jamshoro district to ensure safe drinking water to inhabitants. He directed them to arrange energy biscuits for the drought effected children as well. He took serious notice on the report presented in the meeting 10 reverse osmosis plants in Thana Bola Khan and 3 in Manjh and were still not energised since installment more than a year ago. He asked senior Member BoR to get compensation cheques for the heirs of seventeen 17 deceased who killed in the building collapse incident at Ilyas Abad Hyderabad.
