Kakas firm gets nod for project

Hyderabad, Sept. 7: Venus Energy, a private power company owned by the senior Congress leader, Mr G. Venkataswamy, is on the verge of getting permission to set up a hydel power project three km downstream of the existing 120-mw Machkund power station on Sileru River.
Interestingly, the former Chief Minister, Dr Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy, had stoutly opposed giving permission to the firm to set up the power plant.
This time around, the Orissa government has already given its permission and the company has been awaiting green signal from the state. AP and Orissa had signed an agreement in 1999 to set up a 20 mw hydel project as a joint venture and share the power equally. Accordingly, Orissa entrusted the execution of the project to Venus Energy and APGenco also issued a no-objection certificate to the company.
