With the Tamil Nadu government announcing a special Rs 500 crore package to be used to spruce infrastructure facilities in the villages around the nuclear power plant in Koodankulam, the panchayat presidents of villages around Kalpakkam — where a nuclear power station and related facilities are located — have raised similar demands.
The panchayat presidents handed over a memorandum to the district collector on Tuesday, demanding that their villages, too, should be extended similar special developmental package since the people there faced livelihood problems due to the establishment of the nuclear power plant.
