The Kerala Government is hopeful that the Cauvery tribunal will protect its legitimate interests despite the State's unenviable legacy of having had to share precious water while not being adequately compensated by its neighbours in kind. The State Water Resources Minister, Mr T.M. Jacob, told Business Line that the Cauvery has a total capacity of 740 tmc ft, to which the three west flowing rivers originating from Kerala - the Bhavani, Kabini and Pampar - contribute as much as 148 tmc ft.
