A three-month-old boy, which was administered vaccine on Wednesday died on Saturday The child's parents alleged that death was due to vaccination while the Health Department declared it to be death due to diarrhoea. According to sources, the couple Suresh (24) and Sigamani (20) residing in Kammanallur area of Lalapet in Karur district,said that on Wednesday the baby was , vaccinated for whooping cough, dyptheria and jaundice. On Friday the baby allegedly developed , symptoms of diarrhoea for which it was treated at Kulithalai. But on Saturday as its health , deteriorated, the baby was taken to hospital where it died soon after. The parents and the public put the blame on the vaccine administered at the PHC. Deputy Director of Health Services Sadasivam, tahsildar Subramanian, Regional Deputy Tahsildar Natesan, Social Welfare Tahsildar Dharmaraj, Revenue Inspector Ravikumar and Lalapet Inspector Govindaraj took up investigations. According to Sadasivam, the vaccination was done on Wednesday. If the child was allergic to the vaccine, it would have died the same day. But on Friday, the baby was afflicted with diarrhoea with frequent emissions. The child was treated for the disorder in a private hospital.On Saturday when the symptoms re , curred, the child was belatedly brought to the PHC. The doctor who examined the child, said the child had reached the coma stage as its kidneys had become dysfunctional due to acute diarrhoea. Hence treatment became ineffective.
