Kiran directs officials to go ahead with Pranahita plan

The Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, on Monday directed the irrigation officials to prepare a comprehensive report on the status of Indira Sagar Polavaram Project and Dr BR Ambedkar Pranahitha-Chevella Sujala Sravanthi. The Chief Minister held a detailed review on the two irrigation projects with the minister, Mr Sudarshan Reddy, and senior department officials. He told the officials to go ahead with the preliminary works on both the projects simultaneously. He said he would pursue national status for these projects with the Centre. The officials informed the CM that the Pranahitha-Chevella project works were divided into 28 packages and agreements were concluded for all the packages during 2007-08 and 2008-09. The field investigation works for the main canal and tunnels are completed in majority of packages all design works are in progress, they said. The project will provide 30 tmc ft of drinking water to twin cities and 16 tmc ft for industrial purposes in the surrounding areas besides providing irrigation facilities for 16.4 lakh acres.
