The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr K. Rosaiah, has decided to take up the issue of fuel allocation with the Centre and the Union Petroleum Ministry for the proposed power project in the IFFCO Kisan Special Economic Zone (SEZ) coming up in the Nellore district of the State. The SEZ requires about 1.5 mmscd of gas critical for greenhouses which require about 70 MW of power to support them and the zone. The IFFCO Kisan SEZ is being developed as a multi-product development zone to serve as a hub for farming activity including processing. According to plans, it is proposed to invest Rs 660 crore in infrastructure and about Rs 6,500 crore for processing zone. Andhra Pradesh has approved it as the multi-product SEZ on April 19, 2010. Following a review meeting held on Friday, the Chief Minister agreed to the IFFCO Kisan SEZ plea to allow them to convert agricultural land into non-agricultural land and also waiver of payment of 10 per cent of land cost for non-agricultural land. However, Dr Rosaiah, according to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office, directed the promoters to expedite the project, which is being developed as a farmer promoted multi-product SEZ with specialised agro parks. The former Chief minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, had laid the foundation stone for the SEZ in March 2008, within couple of months of clearance of the SEZ by the Ministry of Commerce. Therefore, the land survey work has been completed and necessary support infrastructure is now under development.
