KKPKP passes for Recycling Policy

A delegation of write-pickets from the Kagad Kach Patra Kashtakari Panchayat (KKPKP) an association elf waste-pickers from Pune, and the national alliance of waste-picker's' organisations, presented the Lok Sabha candidates with a petition asking them to pass a - "Recycling Policy', which gives due place to the waste-pickers and the informal recycling sector. The delegation urged the candidates to study it carefully and comment on the same. The policy was formulated after a consultative process with involvement of various groups of waste-pickers from Delhi, Pune, Mumbai, Indore, Bangalore, Aurangabad, Ahmedabad and Latur. "Waste management is an extremely important urban issue and needs immediate attention of various ministries including the Ministry of Environment: and forests, Renewable Energy, Urban Development, Labour and Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation. A holistic, comprehensive, environmentally sound, socially responsible and economically relevant approach to waste management is proposed in the policy.' KKPKP said.
