KMDA to start survey for beautification of river banks

The Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) would soon undertake a survey for preparing a detailed project report (DPR) to make the chief minister's dream project~ beautification of banks along the river Hooghly~ successful.
The state urban development minister, Mr Firhad Hakim, today held a meeting with the mayor and officials of KMC and representatives of KoPT at Writers’ Buildings where details of the project was discussed thoroughly. Later, the urban development minister said the KMDA would soon start the survey and the DPR would be prepared based on the survey. The survey would be completed within 45 days.
As part of the beautification project, Hooghly riverbanks in both the sides would be made green by undertaking tree plantation programme. This apart, a few parks would also be set up. The beautification project would be stretched to Nimtala from Vidyasagar Setu and on the other side the centre of the project would be Howrah Railway Museum and it would be stretched to both the sides till the land is available.
Apart from this, there would be two other projects based on Hooghly river. The proposed Kolkata Eye, on the lines of London Eye, would be be set up near the Vidyasagar Setu. For this, two acres of land has already been identified. An expression of interest has already been floated by the state government for this project. Mr Hakim said they have already received an overwhelming response in this regard.
Another project ~ Mariner ~ would also be set up near the Vidyasagar Setu. In this project, a jetty would be set up on three acres of land where several water sports would be available, including launch services to far-off places like Digha. This would also be set up by a private company and the state government would provide the land only.
The state would soon float an advertisement inviting expression of interest from private parties.
