The first wave of floods claimed two hog deer on Wednesday while they were crossing NH-37 in Kaziranga National Park (KNP). Disclosing that over 60 per cent of 858 sq km area of the park and 80 camps are already inundated by floodwater, the park authorities said that animals have begun moving towards Karbi Anglong hills. Meanwhile, security in the park has been beefed up as poachers may take advantage of the flood to kill animals. Park authorities admitted they could not complete construction of artificial highlands to provide shelter to animals during floods. However, additional forest guards have been deployed to take care of distressed animals, they said.
