Kodagu gets Rs` 30 lakh for drinking water

The State government has released a sum of Rs 30 lakh for solving drinking water problem in Kodagu district. The two assembly constituencies will get Rs 15 lakh each.
The State government has given the direction to take measure to solve drinking water woes in the district and dig borewells only in case of emergency. There is scope for rejuvenating borewells which have become defunct, said Zill Panchayat officer to Deccan Herald. The work will be undertaken on priority basis after discussing in the Taluk Task Force.
The shortage of drinking water is not aggravated in several places. Hence, the works will be undertaken on priority basis during summer, said the official.

Works worth Rs 28.50 crore has been undertaken in Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme during 2010-11. Last year, a sum of Rs 14 crore has been utilised. In the meantime, the Zilla Panchayat has sent a proposal to the State government to release Rs 6 crore.
The 3 Gram Panchayats have been asked to include the ongoing works during 2010-11 to the action plan of 2011-12. The Kodagu Zilla Panchayat has already given its nod for 20 crore labour budget for 2011-12.
