The majestic Sun Temple at Konark which has put Orissa on the world heritage map with its architectural splendour and exquisite carvings is crumbling with the stone erosion and weathering effect taking a heavy toll. Salt action, wind, humidity, algae and fungal growth have also contributed to the perishing splendour of the Black Pagoda, as the Sun Temple is popularly known.
