Kozhikode on alert against rat fever

District Medical Officer P. K. Mohanan has informed that a lot of cases of Rat Fever were reported from various parts of Kozhikode district even though the cases are not concentrated in any one place. According to a press release, Rat Fever is found to be dangerous for aged persons as well as those who suffer from some other illness. DMO advice The spread of the disease is mainly through the faeces of rat that spreads through water, especially in water-logged areas during monsoon. The DMO advised the public to avoid washing hands, face or taking bath in water-logged places during rain. He advised people working in drains and culverts to take Doxycyclin tablets as a precaution. Two tablets of 100 mg each can be consumed twice a week, which can be continued for six to eight weeks. The tablets are available in all Primary Health centres and medical shops.
