In a major move, the state government has shelved the proposed Krishna Phase-III project and replaced it with the Godavari project to bring 10 tmc of water in phase-I from the Sripada Sagar reservoir in Yellampalli in Karimnagar district. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has invited tenders for the execution of the Rs 3,300 crore project to bring Godavari water to the city. Though the managing director of the Water Board, Mr Ashok Kumar said that no official communication has been received on Krishna Phase-III, sources said the green signal to Godavari literally means that Phase-III stands shelved. Telugu Desam leader, Mr T. Devender Goud alleged that the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy has shelved the project to divert Krishna water to his native Kadapa district. "The citizens of the city have a right to get that water," MIM MLA, Mr Akbaruddin Owaisi said. "We will continue to fight for its implementation," he added.
