Hyderabad, July 16: Residents of former municipalities such as Kapra, Alwal, Malkajgiri and LB Nagar and those in Secunderabad Cantonment Board have to wait a little longer to get Krishna water. The South Central Railway has given permission to lay a pipeline for ring main-II of Krishna Phase-II only on Wednesday. According to the water board managing director, Mr G. Asok Kumar, it would take two months to complete ring main-II works. The Water Board plans to supply about 25 MGD of water per day to the above-said municipalities and SCB from ring-main-II. It has already laid a pipeline from Sahebnagar to Mettuguda. Ring-main II will connect reservoirs at Marredpally and Mahendra Hills. "We need to lay the pipeline below the railway tracks at Mettuguda, and another 600 metres from railway line up to Addagutta via Rail Nilayam road,' said Mr Asok Kumar. "We will undertake the works on war footing.' Meanwhile, the Union finance minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, will formally commission Krishna Phase-II on July 19. In all, 60 MGD water is being drawn from the project in the past one year. Officials said they would be able to draw 90 MGD water from Phase-II only after the completion of ring-main-II line at Mettuguda. "This will ensure water to Qutbullapur, Rajendernagar, Serilingampally and Kukatpally too,' said an official.
