Steps are being taken to generate power from the first phase of the power project with a capacity of 4,000 mw in Krishnapatnam in the district in October 2013. The Anil Ambani group Reliance is establishing the project at a cost of Rs 20,000 crore. In the first phase, 800 mw power would be generated. This would be stepped up to 800 mw per six months in phases, and 4,000 mw power would be generated by 2015. The government had decided to hand over 2,625 acres to the company within two months with 80 per cent of the land already handed over. The minister for Information and Public Relations, Mr Anam Ramnarayana Reddy, said that the UPA chairperson, Ms Sonia Gandhi, and the Prime Minister, Mr Manmohan Singh, would attend the foundation-laying ceremony of the project. He held discussions with officials and representatives of Reliance Power at the district collectorate here on Sunday. Speaking to newsmen, the minister said that steps were being taken to generate 6,600 mw of power in Nellore district. He said that Chief Minister Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy had taken the initiative to establish the power project in Nellore district. He said that AP Genco would also set up a power project with a capacity of 1,600 mw in the district. Mr Ramnarayana Reddy said that another two projects, each with a capacity of 500 mw, would also be established in the private sector. He said that land acquisition for the projects was being taken up on a war-footing. The minister said that there would be no shortage of power in the state after completion of the power projects and there would be surplus power. Mr Ramnarayana Reddy said that all amenities were being provided for the power project to be set up by Reliance. He said that each unit of power generated from the project would cost Rs 2.33. The minister said that steps were also being taken to expand all power projects in the state. The Reliance Ambani group vice-president, Mr Sridhara Rao, the district collector, Mr K. Ramgopal, and others were present.
