In a bid to wean tribals away from non-productive forms of agriculture in the north-east and provide additional income, agriculturists have introduced a pilot project in Assam to revive lac production. In collaboration with the Ranchi-based Indian lac Research Institute (Ilri), the Tribal Co-opertive Marketing DEvelopment Federatoin of India (Trifed) aims at boosting lac production in the region and earn foreign exchange in the process.
