Lack of co-ordination leading to rise in wood smuggling

Due to lack of inter-state co-ordination among forest authorities, the forest areas of south Gujarat bordering Maharashtra have become a convenient passage for inter-state smuggling of teak and other expensive wood. Often the local timber thieves, in connivance with the middle-men, smuggle illegally cut teak and kher wood to Maharashtra and remain undetected, according to forest officials.
