Crop cultivation on 8,000 acres of land are hampering due to lack of irrigation as power lines of 130 deep tube wells remained disconnected at different parts in Baghmara upazila. Thousands of farmers have become unnerved with their crops for want of irrigation water. Local farmers have already submitted written complaints to the deputy commissioner's office and other concerned offices against General Manager of Natore Palli Bidyut Samiti-1 Tushar Kanti Debnath for not giving the power supply to the deep tubewells. There are 130 private deep tube wells in Ganipur, Maria, Hamirkutsa, Basupara, Kachari, Koalipara, Dippur, Barabihanli unions in the upazila and Bhabaniganj pourashabha to cover irrigation on 8,000 acres of land. Farmers, who have cultivated boro, maize, vegetables and other crops on the land, cannot irrigate their land in the absence of power connection to the privately owned deep tube wells. The tube well owners held the General Manager of Natore Palli Bidyut Samiti-1 responsible for the situation and alleged that he demanded bribe from them for giving power connections. General manager denied the allegation and said that they cannot give the power connection as the Natore Palli Bidyut Samiti-1 is receiving 21,000 kilowatts electricity against 33,000 kilowatts fixed for it.
