Lahan municipality to ban use of plastic bags

The Lahan Municipality is to ban the use of plastic bags at town area. The municipality is known as the main business hub in the Sagarmatha zone.
At an orientation organised by the Lahan Municipality and Lahan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in course of 'Plastic bags control campaign 2071' here on Monday, Executive Officer at the Municipality Mahendra Khamyahang said that the sell and use of the plastic bags would be banned at the town area from June 5 on the occasion of the World Environment Day.
He also urged all to support the campaign as the plastic bag is the main challenge for the garbage management in the town.
The executive officer said that the town dwellers should join hands to hands in the campaign to increase the beauty of the town and to make the town environment pollution free area.
The 'Lahan Municipality Plastic Bags Control Working Procedure-2071' has been formulated to make the campaign a success.
A study shows around 22 tonnes of garbage are produced at the Lahan town area every day, which contain 95 percent plastic. RSS
