Due to a recent controversial decision taken by the HP government to allow green felling after a period of 16 years, more than 10 to 12 lakh trees will face axe annually. This is in addition to more than 50,000 trees which are given to right holders under the Timber Destruction Scheme annually besides thousands of other trees which are felled illegally.
