The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) is set to install solar plants with power output of 1.35 MW on the rooftops of its power substations and other offices across the state. Lanco Solar Energy Private Limited has won the price bid for the project. The plan is to install solar photovoltaic units on the rooftops of 55 select buildings of the board spread across the state. Three companies--Lanco Solar Energy Private Ltd based in Gurgaon, Godrej and Boyance Mfg Co Ltd , Mumbai and Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation Ltd had won the pre-qualification bid and among them KSEB selected Lanco, which came up with the lowest price bid, KSEB sources said. According to sources in the board, the approximate cost for the rollout of the project would come around Rs 15 crore. “Lanco was selected for the project and a final figure for the project implementation would be reached after the completion of the ongoing negotiations. We have already identified the buildings where the solar photovoltaics are to be installed. The project is expected to be operational during the current financial year itself,“ said Valsalakumari K, chief engineer (corporate planning) and safety commissioner. According to her, the solar units on the rooftops of board's buildings and power substations would be connected to the power distribution grid. The excess solar power after the utilization at the generating point would be plugged into the KSEB grid. The size of the solar units would vary from spot to spot, depending on the rooftop area available for the installation of the plant. Lanco has also bagged a 50 kW solar power project the board proposes to install at Peringalkuthu power station in Thrissur.
