Land acquisition for new rail line awaits state nod

March 29: Revenue authorities have formed teams to expedite the land acquisition for proposed railway line from Obulavaripalli in Kadapa district to Krishnapatnam in SPSR Nellore district. A subsidy of Indian Railways, the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has already completed the geological survey and identified 1,000 acres after firming up the alignment from Kadapa border to Venkatachalam in Nellore district. It may be mentioned here that railway line work almost completed up to Krishnapatnam from Venkatachalam. Speaking to this newspaper on Monday, the district collector, Mr K. Ramgopal, said that 50 per cent of the 1,000 acres is located in Rapur mandal itself and it consists both patta and government land. According to Mr Ramgopal, the teams have been asked to take up survey number wise verification to speedup the procurement process. The district administration sought Rs 45 crore, the tentative cost of the land and RVNL has agreed to release the amount immediately. Since the railways have approved Nadikudi-Srikalahasthi line in the recent budget, the collector has asked the RVNL to check the possibility for common alignment. A formal clearance from the state government is awaited to start the land acquisition. Although the line is primarily meant for transporting iron ore, it will have nine railway stations to facilitate the introduction of passenger trains. Mangampeta and Chrerlopalli in Kadapa district, Velikallu, Rapur, Nelapalli, Brahmanapalli, Aadurupalli, Kotundupalli and Kasumur in Nellore district will have railway stations in the proposed line, according to Mr S. Purushottaman, assistant manager of RVNL. He said that they will complete the work with in three years after the land is handed over to them. The land acquisition work has been completed in Kadapa district, Mr Purushottaman said.
