PARADIP: The district administration has decided to go ahead with land acquisition for Posco steel project on Wednesday despite protests from anti-Posco groups. Land acquisition will be carried out with the help of the Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO), said District Collector Narayan Chandra Jena.
The administration on Tuesday conducted a preparatory meeting at Kujang to chalk out strategies for the process.
Four teams have been constituted for re-verification, documentation and demolition of betel vines, prawn ponds, trees and other structures from government and forest land in villages where land will be acquired for the plant.
Each team comprises 15 officials from revenue, forest, horticulture and IDCO.
The process will be completed by June 23. The district administration has deployed two platoons of police force at Gadakujang and 20 platoons have been stationed at Kujang, Paradip, Trilochanpur and Balitutha as a stand-by for any exigency.
SP S Debadutta Singh said all arrangements for the land acquisition had been put in place.
