Kolar, DHNS: Revenue Department will soon set in motion the process to acquire 650 acres of land required for implementation of Yaragol project. A sum of Rs 13 crore will be released to the Department within a week in this behalf. Speaking to media persons at Bangalore recently, Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board (KWSSB) chairman R Varthur Prakash disclosed that tenders would soon be floated to commence the work and earnest efforts made to complete the project with a period of one-and-a-half-year. Prakash said that it was being planned to lay pipeline from Yaragol to Malur via Kolar, Vakkaleri so as to supply water to 30 villages enroute. Successful implementation of the project, Prakash hoped, would redress the long-standing drinking water crisis in Kolar. He disclosed that a solid waste management unit would be set up at Seepura and the compost manufactured from the solid waste would be supplied to farmers. He alleged that a few vested interests were trying to derail the plan for acquisition of 25 acres of land for garbage disposal. However, the project would soon be taken up, Prakash added. Opining that a major part of the drainage construction work carried in the city was of poor quality, the KWSSB chairman said that the construction would be upgraded in a span of one year. Begli Suryaprakash, C Raghuram, Vakkaleri Ramu and others were present.
