The protest against land acquisition for industrial projects has gathered momentum in Rewari. The residents of five more villages have also opened front against the state government for acquiring their fertile land to develop HUDA Sector 20 and 21 in Rewari town. The villagers have refused to receive the award for land acquired pleading that since the Congress government has implemented new land acquisition policy in the State hence acquirement process should be reinitiated as per new provisions otherwise they would not let the government take possession over their land. A panchayat of five villages- Kalaka, Peewara, Jhhajhhanvaas, Konsivaas and Maandhaiyan villages – held at government school at Kalaka village in Rewari said the state government can not acquire fertile land without consent of the land owners as per new policy hence it should begin the process of getting consent of the farmers after quashing ongoing land acquisition procedure. The state government has acquired over 450 acres land of five villages to develop the HUDA Sector 20 and 21 in Rewari town. The villagers have recently been served notices under section 9 of Land Acquisition Act for getting the award for their land acquired. These notices have sparked anger among the villagers as they were waiting for cancellation of the acquirement process. “A significant numbers of houses have already been built on the land acquired by the Government for developing sectors. How can the government render the people homeless by acquiring their land,” said Ajay Yadav, a resident of Kalaka village in the panchayat. He maintained that they would not give up their land in any condition as the government can not acquire land in the residential area. Other villagers in the panchayat said they had filed their objections against the land acquisition after getting the notices under section 5 of the Land Acquisition Act but the government did not pay any heed to these objections and carried out its procedure of land acquisition.
