The Land Ownership Bill passed by cabinet last week will benefit 1.2 million landless people. The bill is known as the 'Ratnabhoomi' Land Ownership Bill. Under the "Ratnaboomi" scheme state land will be allocated to landless citizens of the country within certain parameters where for housing purposes, a maximum of 20 perches land in Pradeshiya Sabha limits, 10 perches within UC and Town Council limits and 6 perches in Municipal areas will be transferred free with absolutely clear titles to the beneficiary.
