After suffering reverses in panchayat polls in several districts of West Bengal, the CPI (M) on Thursday said industrialisation in the state would continue, though steps to acquire land would be taken "cautiously". "The process of industrialisation will continue. However, we have to take steps cautiously (to acquire land) and decide on where industries would be set up," party Politburo member Biman Bose told reporters here. Mr Bose, who is here to attend the Central Committee meeting, said, "We have to take the people into confidence and move forward." The decision-making body on Thursday discussed the party's West Bengal unit's report on the recent panchayat polls, in the wake of losses it suffered in Nandigram and Singur. Mr Bose's new Politburo colleague and West Bengal industry minister Nirupam Sen acknowledged problems relating to land acquisition, but said industries were being set up "through consensus" at the panchayat level in districts like West Midnapore, Purulia and Bankura. Replying to questions, he said in other areas, industries would be set up "only after such consensus is achieved ... There are different perceptions (about land acquisition) in different panchayats and we are striving for a consensus decision". Mr Sen was inducted into the Politburo at the Coimbatore Congress in April 2008. Stressing the need to strengthen Left unity, especially in the aftermath of Left Front constituents competing amongst themselves in certain panchayat seats, Mr Bose said similar situation was witnessed in 1988 too, but the Left Front remained intact. He was confident that differences at the grassroot level.
