Landslip in western districts claims 12, hundreds displaced

At least 12 people died in landslide in different districts in past few days.
Seven people were killed in landslide in Doti and Dhangadi districts following an incessant rainfall for last three days.
Five persons from a family died in Laxminagar VDC in Doti district and three others injured, when a house collapsed after the landslide that occurred at around 4 pm yesterday. The deceased are identified as Thagu Devi Bhat, Ganga Devi, Jamuna Devi, Sita Devi and a seven-year-old child.
Likewise, Laxmi Sunuwar and Pooja Sunuwar were killed in Dhangadi district when their house in Godawari VDC collapsed following a landslip.
Flood in the district has swept away other 74 houses and hundreds of people have been displaced.
Meanwhile, all the flight schedules from Nepalgunj to the far-western and mid-western districts have been cancelled for past two days because of abrupt change in weather in the districts.
Following an incessant rainfall, the swollen Karnali River has inundated Madara village of Kothiyaghat region in Bardia district. The police have been carrying out rescue operation in the region this morning.
The water level in the Babai River has increased and the settlements on the riverbank been warned of a probable flood.
Likewise, vehicular movement in the Mahendranagar-Chisapani section along the East-West Highway has been obstructed after bridges at different places were swept away by flood.
Many regions in Kanchanpur district are still inundated.
Five persons have gone missing in a flood in Dodhara VDC of Mahedranagar Municipality.
Meanwhile, traffic in the Butwal-Palpa road section along the Siddhartha Highway could not be resumed. The highway is blocked due to landslide at different places in the highway since yesterday.
Likewise, the Chandrauta-Dang road section along the East-West Highway has also been obstructed.
