The alcohol industry has asked for a legislation to make the use of the oxygenated fuels mandatory in view of their eco- friendliness when used in blend with petrol to power motor vehicles. The industry has pleaded for the use of ethanol in particular because in its view compared to other two oxygenates - MTBE and ETBE, ethnol is cheap and easily available also.
