Bangladesh Observer (Dhaka)
Once again a number of environmental groups and concerned individuals have come out with data on the alarming level of lead in Dhaka's air. At a news conference the group presented a report based on congested, heavily polluted spots like bus and truck terminals and busy crossings, as well as blood samples from children at Dhaka Shishu Hospital. Tests done at DU and BAEC labs revealed that the level of lead pollution ranged from 93 to over 200 micrograms per decilitre of blood in the children under scrutiny. This, is to say the least, is debilitating and deadly. (editorial)
