The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has urged the government to oppose the legalisation of biopiracy which is threatening Indian farmers of their livelihood. The CPI (M) central committee member, Dr. Biplab Dasgupta, said "despite warning, government has not strongly intervened to oppose patent on plant and animal varieties and human organs and legalisation of plundering of our biological wealth by the multinational agri-business and pharmaceutical corporations".
