- Legislation gives Gond tribals a new voice

Deep within the bamboo and timber-rich forests of Gadchiroli district in Maharashtra , tribal villagers are seeing the first stirrings of a 'mini political revolution'. The growing assertiveness among the Gond tribals here has led to a head-on confrontation with local authorities. The instigator this time around is not the Naxalites but a piece of central government legislation that came into force in the state two months ago with little fanfare.
