The leading flames of forest fire noticed in the two ranges of the Nagarahole forest division in Karnataka might have been doused promptly this time around. Yet, there is little room for complacency in devising foolproof measures which will ensure protection of the fauna and flora of the national sanctuary named after the late Mr. Rajiv Gandhi. The real cause for concern is this disturbing phenomenon of the so-called accidental fire tending to become a recurring one. The forest department officials should ascertain the exact cause for this and take the public into confidence as regards the actual damage caused by the fire mishap that occurred earlier this month...editorial
