The Lahore High Court on Thursday sought a reply from the ministry of Foreign Affairs, ministry of Law & Justice and ministry of Water & Power within two weeks on a petition seeking directions to raise issue of two Indian dams before the concerned forums. Justice Ijazul Ahsan passed the orders on a petition filed by the Kissan Board Pakistan. Earlier, the petitioner's counsel arguing before the court on Thursday submitted that India was constructing a dam " Nimo Bazgo Hydro Electric project" on the Indus River in occupied Kashmir without consent of the Pakistan government. He pointed out that India was constructing another dam " Chutak Hydero Electric Power Project" on Shuru River, which was a tributary of Indus River. The counsel submitted that both these dams were under construction since 2003 and likely to be completed in near future. He contended that projects would directly affect flow of Indus River and resultantly damage irrigation system of Indus River in Pakistan. He contended that it was duty of government and respondents ministries to take up the matter in International Court of Arbitration but no efforts were made for the purpose. He pleaded the court to summon respondents and inquired why no concrete efforts were made since initiation of these two dams since 2003. He further requested the court to issue directions to respondent to raise the issue before International Court of Arbitration or United Nations Frame Work Convention on Climate Change. The court after recording initial arguments sought a reply from respondents within two weeks.
