All the works including civil, pressure mines (laying underground pipelines) and electro-mechanical works of Indirasagar Lift Irrigation Scheme (ILIS) are going on a war-footing with an aim to start the trial run by 2008-end. ILIS would lift 16.5 tmc feet water from Godavari river at Rudramkota under Velierpad mandal to 40 meters height to irrigate two lakh acres in Khammam, Krishna and West Godavari districts. The project is divided into seven packages. P. Janakiraj, IVRCL and Kirloskar companies are working in full swing in executing the ILIS works worth Rs 1,824 crore. The scheme is being built on engineering-procurement-construction (EPC) basis and the companies that came to an agreement with the government should take up a survey and execute it. The companies are responsible for the success of the scheme. A high-level meeting was held in the state capital by the engineer-in-chief and other higher officials, including Sattupali MLA J. Venkata Rao. They discussed the progress of the works. It was decided to hold another meeting soon to speed up the works. ILIS superintending engineer A.V.S. Murali Krishna, who is looking after the project, said, "About 30 per cent of the work of three pressure mine packages at a distance of 40 km have been completed.' He said Kirloskar company reached an agreement with the government to execute the electro-mechanical package and the work of pump house-II has commenced. The designs of the pump house-I and III would be sent for app-roval and the work would begin soon, the superintending engineer said.
