Liberia's logs of war

The lush forests of Liberia are being logged out of existence as timber replaces 'conflict diamonds' in fuelling wars in West Africa, according to a United nations panel and an environmental group. Liberia remains the only West African country with a significant forest cover, but environmentalists say its trees could disappear within two decades because of intensive and unregulated logging - and a lack of political will to prevent deforestation.
