Former Meghalaya Chief Minister and leader of Opposition, Sri D D Lapang had demanded lifting of the ban on forest operation in the North East saying it has caused more damage to forests. "The intention of the Supreme Court while banning timber operations in the North Eastern states was to preserve forest, but the order has caused more damage to the forests", he told the Parliamentary Committee on Petitions here.
