BHUBANESWAR: THE State Government will start lift canal system as part of the Upper Indravati Irrigation Project beginning next year. The work which will commence by second half of 2011 is expected to end by 2013. At least 26,248 hectare land in Koksara block can be irrigated by the system. It is only after the project gets clearance from the Central Water Commission and Forest and Environment Ministry that work on the project will begin. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today reviewed progress of the project at the State Secretariat. The Koksara Lift Project, as it will be known, is going to entail an investment of Rs 740 crore. A pump house would be constructed at Hati barrage as part of the project and underground pipelines will be laid for irrigation. Once completed, most of Kalahandi would get irrigation facility.
