The arrival of a weak monsoon in Jharkhand today is bringing with it additional problems for parched districts of Palamau where at least 135 cattle have apparently died due to a scarcity of drinking water. Elsewhere, the state recorded as many as 11 deaths due to lightning in the last 48 hours. In Chatarpur block of Palamau, 135 cattle have died in last couple of weeks. Palamau deputy commissioner Amitabh Kaushal, who visited Karsho village of Chatarpur block where the majority of the cattle deaths occurred, confirmed that scarcity of drinking water for livestock was the reason.
