On Thursday, the lights were switched off in two phases ~ from 1.30 p.m. to 2.30 p.m. and from 6.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m. in accordance to the fresh internal circular issued today to the house staff of Raj Bhavan. "All five main switches of Raj Bhavan were once again switched off today following the Governor's orders,' an official said. Meanwhile, all appointments at Raj Bhavan were scheduled keeping in mind the Governor's decision to turn off power at the Raj Bhavan. "There were no visitors for the Governor today,' an official added. Official work notwithstanding power-cuts was carried on normally in the afternoon. However, official work were kept on hold for an hour during the evening power cuts as no candles were allowed to be lit, officials said. Like yesterday, only two automatic solar-powered lights in the 24.6 acre heritage structure burnt bright during the voluntary power cuts. A CESC spokesperson said that Raj Bhavan being a no power cut zone, the department had already dedicated a feeder-line supplying power there. "Power cuts in the area are rare since supply to the Raj Bhavan is treated as an essential service ,' he said. CESC officials further pointed out that power supply to the Raj Bhavan or its adjacent areas were not disrupted during the day and the CESC had not received any information about the times when power would be switched off at the Raj Bhavan. "Power supply to the Raj Bhavan has not been disrupted by the CESC but whether lights there will be switched on or off is completely the Governor's prerogative,' a CESC spokesperson said. Ditto Mamata Emulating the Governor, the Trinamul Congress chief, Miss Mamata Banerjee, today decided to suffer voluntary power-cuts at her Kalighat residence for two hours in the evening from tomorrow. A Trinamul spokesman said, Miss Banerjee won't use electricity during the two hours to share the sufferings of the people caused by the state power department's "inefficient and callous' handling of the power sector.
