Residents of Kharkhatiaghati-Sanguem led by Santano Rodrigues, Nilesh Dessai and Laxman Chauhan have complained to the High Court over the dumping of garbage by Curchorem Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) in violation of the guidelines laid down by Goa State Pollution Control Board. According to reports, the letter states that CCMC is dumping the garbage openly behind the Sanguem Court, without covering the dumped garbage. The letter also brought to the fore, failure of the CCMC to provide due cover of 40-65 cms thickness of soil on the land fill with proper compaction and grading to prevent infiltration of the garbage during the monsoons. Incidentally, despite representation to the GSPCB to take action against the CCMC for not fullfilling the criteria laid down in the authorisation to dump garbage, the GSPCB is alleged to have to have failed in issuing necessary directions to the CCMC.
