A fresh petition was filed at the Andhra Pradesh High Court against the land acquisition for the proposed SEZ in Krishnapatnam in Nellore district. Mr T. Gopal Reddy of Nellore town filed the petition seeking a direction to suspend the notice issued by the mining department for termination of mining lease. The petitioner submitted to the court that the director, mines and geology, granted mining lease for silica sand in 12.877 hectares in Ballavolu village of Nellore in 1999 for a period of 20 years. The petitioner also said the mining department issued a show cause notice to him for termination of his lease. He alleged that the notice was issued with an intention to acquire land for the proposed SEZ at Krishnapatnam. The Andhra Pradesh High Court stalled the land acquisition for expansion of a SEZ in Visakhapatnam on May 2 following a petition filed by locals.
