Looking at pollution on a genetic level

Using a new technique called "gene expression signatures," the researchers have come up with what government regulators could be a breakthrough in environmental science: mapping how toxic chemicals can impact animal genes. Though still in preliminary stages, the work takes advantage of the latest developments in genome technology and could provide a useful tool in long-running debates over the cleanup of polluted rivers.
